We are calling for proposals for essays for a planned volume tentatively titled Visible Numbers: Essays on the History of Statistical Graphics.
This volume will offer readers essays that represent the next generation of thinking about the development of statistical graphics. Now that we have reclaimed overlooked graphic practitioners such as William Playfair, Charles Minard, Florence Nightingale, and John Snow, we wish to dig deeper, analyzing what the development of statistical graphics means in social, cultural, rhetorical, historical, and theoretical terms. We are also interested in essays that cover new ground by bringing unnoticed developments to light.
Visible Numbers has already received considerable interest from a publisher.
Proposals for essays should be approximately 500 words, specifying the topic, justifying the approach you plan to take, and positioning the proposed essay in existing scholarship.
